Kuopion Kalatuote Oy is a family company established in 1992. We prepare fish products from Finnish lake and sea fishes and also from foreign fish fillets. Our selection consist of over 300 fish products. We develope new products continuously and we also prepare food from customer's own recipes.

 

The freshness and excellent quality of our ingredients and traditional prepairing methods are the principles that have guided us for over 20 years now.

Two of our products, Salmon Tzar and Stone Kiln Cold Smoked Salmon took part of the International Taste and Quality Institute's Superior Taste Awards in Brussels and we are glad to infrom you that both of them were awarded with two stars in this blind tasting of Sommeliers and Chefs who are opinion leaders and experts in taste!

 

In 2016 our products "Loistelohi" got 1 star, hot-smoked salmon got 2 stars and brick-oven made cold smoked salmon trout got 3 stars.

Kalakukko
(Finnish fish pasty)

Hot-smoked fish fillets are always prepared from fresh and unfrozen ingredients. We use traditional smokers with alder wood smoke in preparation.  This is our way of making the delicious flavour to our hot-smoked products.

Blazed fishes and fillets are always prepared from fresh and unfrozen ingredients. For blazing we use real open fire. Our selection consist of a variety of different kinds of seasoned and marinaded flavours.

Gravlax products are always prepared from fresh and unfrozen ingredients. Fillets are hand-salted with seasalt.

Cold smoked products are always prepared from fresh and unfrozen ingredients.

 

Cold smoking happens slowly in brick-oven and during that time our fillets get their unique delicious flavour.

 

The iTQi Superior Taste Award is a unique international recognition of taste quality. It certifies that the awarded consumer food and drink products have met or exceeded the taste quality expectations of iTQi juries composed by 120 top European Chefs, Sommeliers and beverage experts. The products are tested blind on their own merits following a strict sensory analysis process that guarantees total neutrality.

Our Kalakukko selection is wide and we prepare them from vendace, perch, salmon, meat and rutabaga.

 

We have over 70 years of experience of making our famous pasties. We have been awarded Finland Championship of Kalakukko baking in 2014 (1st and 2nd place), 2015 (1st and 3rd place) and 2016 (shared 1st place and 2nd place)

Fish is healthy

It is highly recommended to eat different kinds of fishes regularly twice a week. Fish consists of variety of vitamines and a lot of proteins as well as healthy fatty acids. The fatty acids of fish has been also noted to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.

 

Fat contents of fishes varies between 0,5-30%. For example salmon has more fat in it than lower fattier fishes like pike and perch. As a source of D-vitamine fish is an excellent choice in nutrition.  Almost all of the fish species consist a lot of D-vitamine no matter what their fat content is.
